Meaning of cake cutting at weddings

Have you ever wondered why is there a cake cutting ceremony in the middle of the wedding? It's a tradition but why do people do it?

Back in the old days, it symbolizes a new life of the wedded couple. It is intended to symbolize the caring and sharing for one another. The bride and groom make the first slice using a special (often engraved) wedding cake knife designated for this special cake cutting event. The groom places his hand over the bride's on the knife handle and together they make the first cut. After the first two pieces are cut, the bride and groom stand together and feed each other a piece of their cake!

In this day and age, the cake is fake, and couples would normally stop at the cutting. Perhaps it's something we can consider carrying on so that it's more meaningful.
