Top 2 wedding budget tips

Wedding budgeting - PART I
Where to start? How to make an estimation if I don't even know much things cost in the market!

Don’t fret. Let me break it down to pieces for you. Let’s start with just 2 steps for now. These first 2 and very important steps will help gauge your overall wedding cost. Starting your wedding planning with these 2 steps will help you make logical and rational decisions throughout the planning.
Steps
Calculation example
1. Put a price on a head
Ask yourself, how much are you willing to spend on one guest at the reception.

For example, let's put the price at RM200 per pax for a dinner reception. For the sake of calculation, I'll be using this figure throughout this article.

Menu cost per pax:
RM200
2. Decide on the size of your wedding reception guest
The number of wedding guests that you intend to invite will affect the overall reception cost.

For now, let’s assume RM200 includes service tax (10%) and government tax (6%).

Reception cost:
RM200 x 200 guests = RM40,000

* Generally, the reception cost takes up 50% of the entire wedding cost. So just by executing steps 1 & 2, you can already gauge on your overall wedding cost

Overall wedding cost:
RM40,000 + another 50% for everything else = RM80,000

Ta-dah! There you have it, the estimated overall cost of your wedding!
No matter how lavish you want your wedding to be, budgeting is a must!
Please see Part II to find out why budgeting is important, what the other 50% is made out of, and how it can be broken down to.
